While traditional classroom learning works for many students, children with learning disabilities often need a more tailored learning approach.
If your child has ADHD, their ability to focus may require improvement. As for dyslexia, a comprehensive literacy intervention plan may be called for. Whether they’re auditory, visual, or kinesthetic learners also plays into the approach we take with our enrichment students who struggle with ADHD or learning disabilities.
Over the past two decades, the Academic Specialists at e3 Consulting have helped students with learning disabilities rebuild critical skills through one-on-one coaching, tailored lesson plans, and an understanding of your child’s needs both in and out of the classroom.

Guiding Enrichment Students with Learning Disabilities
At e3 Consulting, we don’t force a single learning style onto our enrichment students, because no student learns the same. While a classroom or tutoring center is likely to use direct instruction, an enrichment program such as e3 Consulting will tailor your child’s learning according to their specific needs and disability.
There are a handful of common practices educators use to help students with ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning disabilities learn more effectively. Direct instruction, learning strategy instruction, and a multisensory approach are the big three.
Direct Instruction
Direct instruction can be seen as the traditional learning style in the classroom. Structured lessons and presentations by teachers, guided and independent practice, and regular feedback are the defining traits.
Learning Strategy Instruction
Learning strategy instruction is more foundational. Rather than building student knowledge in a particular subject, this process teaches students how to learn and use their critical thinking skills to solve problems.
Multi-Sensory Learning
Lastly, multisensory learning aims to engage multiple senses–visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile–on the basis that enrichment students learn better when taught using more than one sense.
How e3 Consulting Supports Enrichment Students with Learning Disabilities
e3’s Academic Specialists tailor academic support to the learning styles of our enrichment students with learning disabilities, from ADHD to dyslexia. We start the process by identifying which learning style fits them best.
During these sessions, we determine outcomes along the lines of:
- Are they auditory, visual, or kinesthetic learners?
- Do we need to rebuild their foundational learning habits?
- Are they ready to move on to higher-level learning skills?
- Is there a better way for them to learn?
Tailoring Learning for Students with Dyslexia
Dyslexia is a particularly narrow learning disability and often calls for literacy intervention – a way of helping students reach their reading comprehension to the appropriate skill level.
Throughout our 20 years of supporting enrichment students with learning disabilities, we’ve found that many of them still need to learn to read, before they can read to learn. So, we go back and rebuild foundational reading skills to help them keep caught up with class. Once their understanding of phonics and fluency is developed further, they can then move on to more complex literary skills.
By rebuilding reading comprehension skills, students with dyslexia can gradually build the confidence necessary to “read to learn” and get back to their grade’s reading level.
Tailoring Learning for Students with ADHD
Although ADHD is technically a developmental disability, it is similar to a learning disability because it causes a significant impact on a person’s ability to learn in a traditional setting.
To help these students in the classroom, smaller class sizes and opting for extra test-taking time are two ways to accommodate their needs. Less distractions and a cushion of time helps students build their ability to focus, and takes some of the pressure off of standardized test-taking.
Along with subject-specific guidance, our academic enrichment program builds their confidence, self-advocacy, and makes an effort to help minimize ADHD symptoms naturally through diet, nutraceuticals, and regular exercise.
e3 Consulting can also help families set up psychiatric appointments for medication, or medication management. If your child has been diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed medication in a hasty manner, you may wonder whether it’s really necessary. To determine whether medication is called for, we’ll connect you with a trusted psychiatrist who’ll take ample time when assessing your child.
